Lonely

A short poem

I was your secret

And you were mine

Smiles caught

Glances stolen

Whispers summoned

between busy hallways

and classroom walls

How I wished I had the

strength to stop them

How my body ached

to tell you the truth

Though I kept feeding more

and more to the lie

That hungry beast

Devouring every ounce of

self-resilience and trust, leaving

only lonely thoughts and yearning

How I wished I was strong enough

to handle the beast

To be able to do

what had to be done

to belong to you
